Former President Igor Dodon was summoned to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. He said that it goes to a procedural measure that is usually taken through the agency of lawyers or through email, but the prosecutors need a show. The prosecutors ask for the extension of Dodon’s house arrest for 30 days, IPN reports.
The former President said that he does not understand why this show is necessary. He criticized the prosecutor in charge of the case, saying he was invited at an hour, but had to wait for 40 minutes at the door.
According to Igor Dodon, attempts are being made to mislead the public opinion. Dodon family does not own other assets that the officially declared ones. “They said that the assets registered in the name of my brother, my brother-in-law and the company are mine. But they didn’t determine the origin of the money. These assets were bought with legal funds,” he stated.
He noted that the other counts – passive corruption, acceptance of financing for the political party from a criminal organization and betrayal – are based on the videos of June 2019, which were made in the office of the former leader of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc. He then acted as he acted in order to remove Plahotniuc from power. The prosecutors who make accusations without evidence risk jail terms.
Igor Dodon is under house arrest. His wife Galina Dodon, who is accused of complicity in just enrichment, was banned from leaving the country. Galina Dodon’s brother is in remand detention.
