The president of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Igor Dodon said he is ready to take over as Prime Minister, but only after snap or ordinary parliamentary elections. Until then, the PSRM’s team is looking for solutions to overcome the current political stalemate. There are increasing chances for the interim Government led by Aureliu Ciocoi to manage the affairs for two more years, with Parliament offering it additional powers for coping with the pandemic, IPN reports.

Igor Dodon said Mariana Durleașteanu remains the parliamentary majority’s candidate for Prime Minister. However, the PSRM is ready for a political compromise and can accept other candidates for premiership.

“We are having discussion in Parliament so as to collect more votes in support of this candidate (Durleșteanu – e.n.) or we could have another candidate. As the President refuses to have discussions with us, we are looking for solutions to make the President obey the Constitutional Court’s decision. There is the possibility of amending the Constitution and there is the method of suspending the President,” the Socialist leader stated in a special edition on PrimeTV channel.

He noted they are considering the possibility of suspending the President so that the Parliament Speaker takes over.

“I assure you a referendum on the dismissal of the President will not be held as this costs money and does not solve the problem. We will return to the same stalemate. The suspension from post for transferring the President’s powers to the Speaker for a period is a solution. In such conditions, the acting President signs the decree to nominate the candidate for Prime Minister,” stated Igor Dodon.

Moreover, he said he wants to serve as Premier after the snap or ordinary parliamentary elections.

“I assure you I can cope. I’m ready to manage a Government and I consider this will happen at a particular stage. And we will cope together with the team, but not with the current composition of Parliament. There will be snap or ordinary elections,” stated Igor Dodon.

He noted that given the current political and pandemic crisis and the President’s refusal to initiate a dialogue with the parliamentary parties, the interim Government led by Aureliu Ciocoi could serve until the next ordinary parliamentary elections.
