If the Moldovan administration is unable to ensure balanced foreign policy after the upcoming parliamentary elections, the country can lose its statehood during the next 5-10 years. The statement was made by President Igor Dodon in an event held to sum up the results of a year in office. Igor Dodon said he is not anti-European even if he pleads for good relations with Russia, IPN reports.
The Moldovan authorities should balance the foreign policy and should not look unilaterally at what is going on. In the geopolitical realities in the world and the region, Moldova should have good relations with the West and with the East too, stated President Dodon.
He noted that the task of politicians is to create conditions for businesspeople to be able to work based exclusively on commercial interests. “For the businesses, this geopolitical struggle – Europe – Eurasian Union - holds no interest. They want to trade, to work and to create jobs. And they should not be put in front of a chose: Europe or Russia. If it is profitable to sell 100 tonnes of sugar to Europe, they should do it! If it is profitable to sell 20,000 tonnes of apples in Russia, they should sell to Russia! We, the politicians, should ensure this possibility for them,” stated Igor Dodon.
He regretted the unilateral position of the Government and Parliament. “I have nothing against them being European. But they should not be against Russia and the Eurasian Union,” stated President Dodon, underlining that only the people have the right to indicate the country’s internal and external policy.
