The President of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Dodon, argues that, if it had been up to the former leader of the Democratic Party Vladimir Plahotniuc, the Democratic MPs would not have voted for the resignation of the Sandu Government and for the investiture of the Chicu Government. According to him, Plahotniuc promised "those who offer him protection" that he would do everything possible to keep the Sandu Government in power, IPN reports.
"I don't think Plahotniuc is in Romania, I think he is in the United States. He probably promised those who still provide him protection that he would do everything possible to keep the Sandu Government in power, that it would not be dismissed and that foreign influence would remain. I think this is yet another confirmation that the PDM group, in fact, took into account their own interests, not what Plahotniuc says. For the Democrats snap parliamentary elections would have been a bad scenario as in this case the Democrats, who have currently 30 MPs in Parliament, would have had about 10-12 MPs, or perhaps they would not have gotten through at all because they need time to reform the party”, declared the head of state in a special edition at Moldova 1 public TV station.
Further, Igor Dodon says that if Vladimir Plahotniuc returns to the country, he will be arrested. According to him, this is due to the fact that there are criminal cases opened against him, that this is the position of the National Anticorruption Center and that the former PDM leader is internationally wanted. "Therefore, Plahotniuc can only return to the country in handcuffs, there are no alternatives, not for the offences that had been committed. I think this will happen sooner or later. I would like that to happen as soon as possible, in the coming weeks or months, but this depends on the cooperation with the foreign partners, it depends on how quickly we advance with the Prosecutor General issue," continued the president.
Igor Dodon has also mentioned that the position of external partners is very clear after the change of government in Chisinau. "They want the reforms to continue, they are ready to support not certain people, but the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. Therefore, no matter what the Government is called, no matter who is at the head of this Government, it all depends on what it will do. If it makes reforms, if it further strives to achieve some of the existing objectives, then I think it will receive support”, declared the head of state.
Igor Dodon maintains that all ambassadors he has met by now have said they are ready to support all the programs that have been launched so far. "As for the external financial resources, I believe that these, especially loans, should be taken only for economic growth, only for projects that invest in the economy. I do not accept the previous approaches when we borrowed money for current use or to pay pensions. Therefore, the loans we take must be invested in the economy, in the infrastructure”, added the president. In the opinion of Igor Dodon, good infrastructure will lay the foundations for further economic development and foreign investors will come to Moldova.
