The executive secretary of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Igor Dodon considers that the government suffered a defeat in the November 5 general local elections. In a news conference, Igor Dodon said that the Party of Action and Solidarity, holding comprehensive power in the state, controlling the media, enjoying the support of the development partners, foreign financial support, failed to persuade the citizens that they are the best, IPN reports.
The PSRM’s executive secretary noted that compared with the parliamentary elections of 2021 or the presidential elections of 2020, the PAS lost over 200,000 votes of the citizens. The PAS’s score of 25% shows that 75% of the citizens are against the dictatorial regime of Maia Sandu.
Dodon noted that the Socialists, in conditions of pressure and with criminal cases started against them, got a very good score. The PSRM has over 200 mayors elected by the first round, six mayors of district centers. Eighty of its candidates will contend in the runoffs and six candidates of these will compete for mayoralty in towns.
The PSRM won in the towns of Briceni, Dondușeni, Ocnița, Soroca, Anenii Noi, Criuleni. Six candidates will contend in the district centers of Florești, Râșcani, Șoldăneștii, Basarabeasca, and Vulcănești. The PSRM leads in nine district councils, has a majority of seats in four councils and will name district heads without forming a coalition with anyone.
Igor Dodon called on the PAS not to rejoice at the fact that they won in 18 districts and should not consider that they will have their district heads there. He also called on the citizens not to vote for PAS candidates in the runoffs. He considers that all the opposition forces should unite against “the regime of Maia Sandu”.
