President Igor Dodon, who runs for a new term in office, calls on the pensioners to be conscious and not to believe those who promise they will double or treble the pensions as the pension fund is of 14.6 billion lei a year and doubling of pensions means another 10 billion lei a year, but there are no such funds. He promised he will continue to support the pensioners by the double indexation of pensions and one-off payments, IPN reports.

“We this year offered support to pensioners with smaller pensions. In January, those whose pension is lower than 2,000 lei got assistance. But we received a lot of messages from persons with pensions of 2,002 or 2,010 lei who also asked for support,” the candidate for President stated in the program “Igor Dodon responds”.

According to him, this was the reason for which lump sums of 900 lei were paid in October to all the pensioners with the pension lower than 3,000 lei. “We will take similar measures next year too. This year, we found over 1 billion lei to help the pensioners. I repeat that no Government found such important sums during the past 10-15 years to help the pensioners,” stated the electoral contender.

“Don’t believe those who promise a minimum pension of 2,500 lei – 3,000 lei as of December 1, after you vote for them in the presidential elections. I saw what my opponent Maia Sandu says. She woke up and remembered the pensioners. But last year, when I proposed indexing the pensions two times a year and asked for this support, Missis Maia Sandu blocked my bill, the bill of the presidential administration,” stated Igor Dodon.

He promised he will make sure that the pensions get one-off payments next January and October if he is reelected.

The presidential runoff vote was set for November 15.
