The Socialist leader Igor Dodon said the overcoming of the political crisis faced by the Republic of Moldova is possible only by a dialogue between the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) and the Party of Socialists (PSRM). The two parties should come to terms and invest a temporary government or should adopt vital laws for the country. Amid the large-scale health crisis experienced by the Republic of Moldova, the discussions about the swift organization of snap elections are cynical, IPN reports.

Igor Dodon said yet that snap parliamentary elections could be held this year, but the overcoming of the pandemic crisis is now more important.

“The snap elections can take place only after the COVID-19 situation is stabilized. As we have almost 2,000 infections daily, 80% of which are serious cases, talking about holding swiftly snap elections is very cynical,” Igor Dodon stated in the program “Forth Power” on N4 channel.

The Socialist leader noted the political crisis can be overcome only as a result of discussions between the PAS and the PSRM, which he considers are the main political parties in the country.

“There should be a dialogue between the main political forces and solutions should be identified – naming an interim government with full powers or the PAS and the PSRM, together with other forces, should amend the budget and adopt bills for purchasing vaccines and we can then have snap elections,” stated Igor Dodon.

He noted President Sandu’s scenario to go to the Constitutional Court after March 23 so as to ask for the dissolution of Parliament is not constitutional.

“It is a mistaken path. The Constitutional Court already answered this question for several times. If the Court takes an unconstitutional decision to dissolve Parliament, we will have the situation of June 2019, when Parliament didn’t recognize the Court’s decision and the Venice Commission said we were right” stated Igor Dodon.

He said he is skeptical that President Maia Sandu would ever nominate Andrei Năstase as Prime Minister. However, if this happens, the PSRM will examine the proposed government program and the Cabinet and will decide whether to vote for the executive led by Năstase or not.
