Incumbent President Igor Dodon said Moldova does not need the Transnistrian conflict to be unfrozen, while the recent statements made by President-elect Maia Sandu can lead to destabilization, IPN reports.

“I hope that these statements made in a hurry weren’t made under someone’s influence, in terms of geopolitical interests... I hope a lot that there is no geopolitical player that courts President-elect Maia Sandu and tells her what to say behind those statements. Yesterday and today, I saw a lot of comments and mutual accusations. I remembered the start of the 1990s. I do not want to scare anyone, but, regrettably, there are so many statements and discussions about destabilization, wars as never during the last few years, God protect us,” Igor Dodon stated in the program “Moldova Live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1.

He noted that Moldova does not need conflict situations as those witnessed now in a number of regions nearby.

“We do not want a repeat of the situation of the 1990s or a conflict situation as those in many regions situated not far. Unfrozen conflicts where they shoot daily, where hundreds and thousands of people die. We do not need something like this in the Republic of Moldova. Therefore, I urge calmness and avoidance of acid statements,” stated Igor Dodon.

President-elect Maia Sandu on November 30 said the position of the Republic of Moldova was and remains that the Russian troops should be withdrawn from the Transnistrian region and the munitions that the Russian side says it is guarding there should also be withdrawn.
