President Igor Dodon considers no one should hurry to open talks on the formation of a coalition before the validation of the February 24 parliamentary elections by the Constitutional Court. According to him, after the CC validates the elections, the Party of Socialists should be the first to come up with an offer as it gained the most votes in the elections and the most seats of MP, IPN reports.
Igor Dodon said it is logical for the Socialists to see if they can form an alliance with representatives of the bloc NOW. “These two political entities, of the left and of the right, have a lot of divergences, but also one common point – they both promised to do their best to replace the government. If they have enough wisdom and intelligence, they should sit at the negotiating table and discuss,” he stated.
Asked why the Socialists haven’t yet formulated a proposal for forming a coalition, President Dodon said the PSRM will wait for the Constitutional Court to validate the elections first.
“As President, I will accept one of the four legal scenarios possible, if the parties form parliamentary majorities or do not form them and go towards snap elections,” said Igor Dodon. According to him, if the PDM, PSRM and the bloc NOW do not reach a compromise, the snap elections are a better solution than the attraction of MPs from different groups and the creation of a majority and an ‘illegitimate’ government. If the last case occurs, he will oppose and will not accept the candidate for Prime Minster, if this is proposed by an alliance formed by turncoats.
According to President Dodon, the current mixed electoral system is appropriate, but particular changes concerning the election of candidates in constituencies should be made to it, namely that the aspirant for MP should be from the constituency where this intends to run.
