Unionism, NATO and the lack of a solution to the Transnistrian issue are the most serious dangers to Moldova’s security, President Igor Dodon stated in the program “Key issue” on NTV Moldova channel, IPN reports.

President Dodon said the unionist movement should be stopped in accordance with the legislation, as they do in other states. The government keeps silent about this as it is afraid to damage the good relations with Romania or it plays with these unionists in order to create conflict situations. “I think that at the current moment the government lost control of the situation and is trying to stop this trend, but they will not escape with clean hands. They must give clear orders to the law enforcement agencies and an official position should be stated not only by the presidential office, but also by the Government and Parliament and this should clearly condemn such actions,” he stated.

As to the NATO office in Chisinau, Igor Dodon said this was opened in Moldova because most of the Moldovans are against the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. “The task of this office is to reach the level when most of the Moldovan citizens would accept Moldova’s entry into NATO, in a certain period. This is very and very dangerous,” said the President.

Igor Dodon noted that the interparliamentary security summit “Georgia, Republic of Moldova and Ukraine: Eastern Partnership and current security challenges” that will be held in Chisinau on March 2 is another anti-Russia step taken the Democratic Party. The PDM is thus trying to please the Americans and Europeans and to show how resolutely it pleads against Russia. “This summit runs counter to the national interests of the Republic of Moldova and to the opinion of most of the Moldovans,” he said.
