The task of the politicians from Chisinau and Comrat is to ensure peace, harmony and stability in society, Head of Parliament Igor Corman said in a public lesson at the State University of Comrat, held in concert with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey CemilÇiçek, who was in Moldova on an official visit, IPN reports.
The two officials spoke about the European integration of the two states and the development prospects that derive from the rapprochement with the EU, the joint modernization projects, the attraction of investments and about the commercial and economic cooperation.
“The signing of the Free Trade Agreement between the two states will encourage investment and will contribute to developing the Gagauz region,” said Igor Corman. He reiterated that Moldova can develop only through balanced cooperation with the Western and Eastern partners. The two officials expressed a common position on the European course of Moldova and Turkey, saying the two countries must support each other.
Igor Corman stated that the working group for examining problems concerning the implementation of the constitutional provisions on the status of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia must ensure finality for the benefit of the people from the region.
CemilÇiçek said Turkey will continue to assist the Moldovans through different projects. “We always supported the territorial integrity of Moldova. The Gagauz people must be an integral part of Moldova and must implement projects together with the central authorities. Turkey continuously follows the situation in the region,” he stated.
According to the Turkish official, after the visa regime between Moldova and Turkey is liberalized on June 1 and after the two states sign the Free Trade Agreement, the bilateral relations will intensify. However, Turkey goes through a difficult period and would like peace and stability in Gagauzia, with all the actions being coordinated with the central authorities.
At the end of the public lesson, Turkish Ambassador in Chisinau Mehmet Selim Kartal said they would like more students from Turkey to come to study in Comrat, but the living conditions in dorms should be thus improved. This will become possible through the Turkish program TIKA.
