Moldova achieved remarkable results at foreign level, but didn’t manage to solve a number of important internal problems, Head of Parliament Igor Corman said in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.
Among the problems that remained unsolved, the Speaker enumerated the reformation of justice, eradication of corruption and reformation of the prosecution service. If the case of the prosecution service reform, the Constitution will have to be amended so that the prosecutor general is named by the head of state, at the suggestion of the Supreme Council of Prosecutors.
Another internal problem faced by Moldova is the fact that the citizens do not yet feel the advantages of the European integration and this generates speculations.
Asked about the possibilities of improving the work of the legislature, Igor Corman said cooperation relations should be established with civil society in drafting and appraising bills so as to enhance parliamentary control over the state institutions and have a more responsible attitude towards the reports on fraud and corruption.
As to the problems experienced by the Autonomous Territorial Unit Gagauzia, the Speaker said that the authorities in Comrat are trying to blackmail the central authorities. “We set up a working group after the Gagauz authorities complained that the Law on the Autonomy of Gagauzia of 1994 doesn’t work. As a result, the administration of the region presented a list with nine demands, of which only three referred to the functioning of this law,” he stated.
In the same connection, the Head of Parliament said that it’s right to offer the Gagauz people the possibility of governing themselves, but they should understand that a limit exists everywhere.
Asked about the cooperation with NATO in ensuring Moldova’s security, Igor Corman said that a balanced policy is needed on a short term to avoid stirring things up. He also assured that the Association and Free Trade Agreements with the EU will be signed and ratified.
