Head of Parliament Igor Corman, who was named to post 45 days ago, said the spring-summer session of the legislature that closed last week wasn’t an easy one. But, despite the political crisis, the legislative body achieved good results in its work. In a news conference on July 15, the Speaker said that the cooperation between Parliament and the Government is now better, IPN reports.

“We learned the lessons of the previous period. The sensible ones understand that the past mistakes should be avoided. We must ensure political stability and move on. The MPs’ behavior made the people to have less confidence in Parliament,” said Igor Corman, adding that one of the shortcomings in the legislature’s work is the overdue reforms.

According to Igor Corman, after May 30, when the new Government was voted in, the situation started to improve. “There is much better cooperation within the parliamentary majority. These mechanisms – the coalition’s Parliamentary Council, the Board, and the Council of Leaders – show that the level of cooperation and communication is now different. This enables us to avoid certain problems,” said the Speaker.

He also said that he intends to have better cooperation with the opposition too. “I planned from the very beginning to convince the parliamentary majority to work together with the opposition and to engage it in constructive cooperation,” said Igor Corman, underlining that sometimes the Communist MPs behave like naughty children.

“The majority coalition now has 53 members, but we hope that other MPs will also constructively participate in the debates on bills,” stated the Head of Parliament.

The spring-summer session included 38 sittings, where the MPs adopted 218 legal acts, including for the ratification of over 20 international treaties and financing and assistance agreements.
