The people must know those for whom they vote. That’s why a proposal was made to change the electoral system into a joint one. However, if the Venice Commission’s appraisal of the bill on the modification of the electoral system is negative and if no consensus is reached within the government coalition, the legislative elections will be held in accordance with the current system, Head of Parliament Igor Corman said in the program “Fabrica” on Publika TV, commenting on the Democrats’ proposal to modify the electoral system, IPN reports.

Igor Corman underlined that 2014 is crucial and decisive for Moldova and results are to be obtained following the efforts made since 2009. “We adopted whole packages of laws in the social sphere and on the relationship with the EU. We must continue the justice reform. We will soon debate the penalties for judges. The reform of the prosecution service will also reach Parliament,” he stated.

The Speaker added that now the experience to govern in a coalition is different. He voiced hope that they will be able to maintain the coalition so as to Europeanize the country.

A group of Democratic MPs draft a bill on the modification of the electoral system and submitted it to the Venice Commission for appraisal. The bill wasn’t yet registered in Parliament. A part of the lawmakers of the ruling coalition do not back this legislative initiative.
