Making progress with the European agenda, the reform of justice and of the prosecutorial service are just some of the Parliament's priorities for the spring-summer session. These were announced by Speaker Igor Corman in a press briefing. The official noted that 2014 is an election year and it is important to ensure the proper organization of the lawmaking process and close cooperation between parties, IPN reports.
Another priority is the preparation for signing the Association Agreement with the EU. Corman stressed that the expectation is to ratify it in the Parliament current. “Before the end of January, we'll certainly have a common meeting with the Government to discuss the European agenda and other important issues. We'll also focus on relations with CIS countries and the Russian Federation”, added the Speaker.
As regards the justice reform and the fight against corruption, Corman said that the Parliament hasn't yet passed the bill introducing disciplinary accountability for judges and it requested the expert opinion of the Venice Commission on this matter. The bill is expected to be passed in the spring-summer session.
The session will begin on February 3. The Standing Bureau will meet to set the date for the first plenary meeting. The upcoming session's meetings will take place in the renovated Parliament building.
