The current government, which is a hybrid one, is somehow pro-European, but, using the European integration as a pretext, it implements schemes to illegally obtain incomes, said the executive director of the Association for Participatory Democracy (ADEPT) Igor Botan, who, together with representatives of a number of civil society platforms, took part in the public debate “The pro-European government: ‘labor pains’ and quality of society in the role of ‘midwife’”, organized by IPN News Agency in partnership with Radio Moldova.

“We have a hybrid government in Moldova. This government is in some way pro-European, because it declares itself to be so and even signs agreements, but this government is also dishonest,” stated Igor Botan. He noted that the current government knows what a large part of society dreams of – seeing Moldova part of the EU. Thus, using the European integration as a pretext, it employs corruption and unjust enrichment schemes. “One of the leaders of the current government took part in the Dignity Revolution in Kiev. I have a question for him and for the government of which he forms part: Do we need a dignity revolution in Chisinau when the people are robbed in such a manner?” said the expert.

The executive director of ADEPT also said that given the illegalities committed by the current government, civil society has no other way out than to oppose this hybrid government and keep the protest potential for the local elections. It must create a common front to make the authorities understand that the people can no longer be lied to. The ruling parties must be penalized in a legal and decent way, without reacting to provocations that can be caused by the interested sides.

The public debate “The pro-European government: ‘labor pains’ and quality of society in the role of ‘midwife’” is the 37th of the series of debates “Development of political culture in public debates” that are staged with the support of the German foundation Hanns Seidel.
