Besides the restrictive measures, mass vaccination remains an efficient measure for fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. In the new circumstances, when the number of cases of COVID-19 goes up, it is important to review the elements of the vaccination campaign so as to substantially improve efficiency, ADEPT executive director Igor Boțan stated when presenting the study “Efficiency of Management of COVID-19 Crisis in the Republic of Moldova, August-December 2021”.

In a news conference at IPN, Igor Boțan said it is as important to improve the stages of collecting, processing and presenting statistical data so as to convince the population of the utility of immunization. The statistics should regularly present the ratio of cases of infection among vaccinated persons to the number of infections among unvaccinated persons. The same refers to the deaths associated with COVID-19.

Owing to the experience accumulated while managing the four pandemic waves, the Ministry of Health adopted the necessary measures in anticipation of the fifth pandemic wave – the Omicron variant. During the first week of January 2022, the number of imported cases increased suddenly, about four times, and most probably these were the Omicron variant. In such circumstances, it is very important to fight the issuing of fake vaccination certificates and test results as a lot of such cases were identified during the fourth wave. “These elements should be eliminated so as to stop the fifth wave that is more contagious and we should expect the pressure on the health system to grow,” said the ADEPT executive director.

Igor Boțan noted that ADEPT has monitored the pandemic crisis since it started in 2019 and all its actions in this regard can be seen on alegeri.md, which provides the main statistics about the crisis and the four pandemic waves experienced by Moldova and information about the vaccination process in Moldova since its beginning.

On this platform, anyone can find data about the vaccines that were purchased by Moldova or were donated by other countries. There are also videos of the campaign to encourage the people to get vaccinated and chronological data about the process and measures taken by the Moldovan authorities and the basic documents adopted by the responsible authorities in the fight against the pandemic.
