Igor Dodon’s stake for the upcoming elections is to win these, the standing expect of IPN’s project Igor Boțan stated in a public debate entitled “Stakes of presidential elections in view of political class and society” that was staged by IPN News Agency.

“I don’t think Dodon will succeed in amending the Constitution, as Mircea Snegur and Pentru Luchinski also didn’t manage to. If he wins the elections, things will develop independently. He will have another Premier as Ion Chicu, who will convincingly speak about the necessity of European integration, while Igor Dodon will speak about the necessity of integrating into the Eurasian Union. Later, he will tell us about the effect of his political maturity,” said the expert.

As to Renato Usatyi, he said this candidate embodies the care for and dialogue with the citizens. He is the one who meets with the people, speaks to them in their language, solves their individual problems where he can, with own money. “For our political culture, Renato Usatyi would be a more talented President than Igor Dodon. His stake is to take back the voters confiscated by Igor Dodon in 2014.”

According to Igor Boțan, Maia Sandu and Andrei Năstase want to rehabilitate the European movement in Moldova, to restore the confidence of the people who believed in the European integration in 2014, when they were robbed and the European course was abandoned. “Igor Dodon profited from this, while the task of Maia Sandu and Andrei Năstase is to rehabilitate the image and, in the new circumstances, to show that the Republic of Moldova needs a renewed political class that wants to set down as clear principles as possible. I think this is their stake – for a pro-European President to be elected and parliamentary elections to be held later so as to form a parliamentary majority,” stated the expert, noting the situation is similar to that of the Alliance for European Integration, but without oligarchic party leaders and businessmen.

“I think Violeta Ivanov has only one stake – to promote the interests of her boss in the election campaign,” said Igor Boțan. He also said that now that the Democratic Party practically left the competition, the biggest stake of the Shor Party is to take the place of this party as the holder of the golden share. “Imagine that the difference between Igor Dodon and the European parties is of 10% and these 10% are in the hands of the Shor Party. They will play the game.”

As regards Tudor Deliu, Igor Boțan said he sympathizes with him because he remained near the party even during difficult times. “His stake is to rehabilitate the party.”

As to the unionist candidates, the expert wondered what the people’s attitude to the unionist movement should be like when a unionist boxer kicks another unionist who really did something for the unionist movement.

The public debate “Stakes of presidential elections in view of political class and society” was the 154th installment of the series “Developing political culture through public debates” that is supported by the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
