If Ukraine continues to insist on the construction of hydropower plants on the Nistru River, the relations with the Republic of Moldova will worsen, Victor Juc, vice director of the Institute of Legal and Political Research of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, stated in the program “Emphasis on today” produced by TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.
According to him, now the Ukrainian side is waiting to see the decisions that will be taken in Moldova, while Prime Minister Pavel Filip believes the Ukrainian authorities when these say that any related problem will be solved with the Moldovan administration. “The carried out feasibility studies show in detail how many dangers will threaten the ecosystem of the Nistru. There are a lot of dangers,” stated Victor Juc.
As to the Transnistrian dispute, expert in communication and public relations Valentin Balan said that after 2015, the Ukrainians have perceived the situation in Transnistria differently because they face the same problem in eastern Ukraine. The Ukrainians understood that the conflict in Transnistria was inducted in the Republic of Moldova. At the same time, the Moldovan authorities do not have a single voice that would state the same view. “That’s why, everyone is trying to build a particular image based on the Transnistrian issue, even if the political left and the right mention the resolution of the Transnistrian dispute in their electoral programs,” stated Valentin Balan.
As regards the demarcation of the state border with Ukraine, security expert Rosian Vasiloi said the process will not end this year because this depends directly on the will of the involved sides. Furthermore, the demarcation implies financial costs. “Regrettably, the authorities of the Republic of Moldova and of Ukraine are underfinanced and it always has been so,” noted the expert.
