If an alliance between the Democratic Party and the Party of Socialists is formed, the PSRM will be swallowed by the Democrats, as it happened earlier to the Liberal Democrat Party and the Liberal Party. However, in such a case the Socialists will play a role in a scenario planned for several years, executive director of the Institute for Strategic Initiatives Vlad Kulminski was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Politics of Natalia Morari” on TV8 channel.

According to him, the political situation created in Moldova is a scenario designed beforehand and the Party of Socialists was prepared for the role that it is to play in this scenario. “What we see now is a script written in 2015, 2016 and for which the electoral system was changed, in 2017, 2018,” stated Vlad Kulminski, noting the PSRM will play this role and is to only persuade Moscow that this is convenient.

Vlad Kulminski considers the PDM’s goal in the recent elections was to keep power and to obtain the legitimacy it didn’t enjoy when holding the previous mandate.

Political pundit Vitally Andrievski said the informal leader of the Socialists Igor Dodon will consult the Russian partners about an eventual coalition between the PSRM and the PDM. The Socialists could tell the voters that this coalition is needed as they will this way come to power and will bring things in the state institutions in order.

The expert noted that if such a coalition is formed, the Democratic Party could propose a status for the Transnistrian region and later a referendum on the left side of the Nistru and if the region supports this status, the Democrats would present it to the foreign partners.

Four political entities and three independent candidates entered Parliament after the February 24 legislative elections. The PSRM won 35 sears of MP, the Democratic Party – 30 seats, the electoral bloc NOW – 26 seats and the Shor Party – seven seats. A number of scenarios concerning the possible government coalitions are now being discussed in the public sphere.
