If the Moldovan politicians had acted under the influence of the foreign partners, we wouldn’t have experienced the recent political crisis, expert in electoral strategies Olga Nicolenco said in the public debate themed “Lessons learned and lessons to be learned. Overcoming and prevention of political crises: role of the political class and society - 2” that was staged by IPN News Agency.

Olga Nicolenco stated she convinced herself that even if the crisis was called political and even if the politicians were the main players, it affected all the spheres of life. “We saw regression in the economic development and the worsening of the population’s situation. A crisis means regression in reforms and their promotion, scaring away of the foreign investors. A crisis reduces the political activism of society and the pace of creating veritable European traditions,” she said.

The expert admitted that the crisis was overcome due to the politicians. They realized the dangers and the damage that could have been caused to the country. The mass media also played a part as they showed what was done and what wasn’t done. The civil society representatives made their contribution too.

According to Olga Nicolenco, Moldova should learn from other states how to resolve a crisis. It is important to learn that a crisis should be overcome quickly. Otherwise, it can bring the country to collapse. “The lesson for the politicians is that they should co-exist and cooperate. I would like our development partners top exert greater influence on our politicians. If they had done everything under their influence, we wouldn’t have had the political crisis,” she stated.

The 20th public debate “Lessons learned and lessons to be learned. Overcoming and prevention of political crises: role of the political class and society - 2” of the series “Development of political culture by public debates” was organized with support from the German foundation “Hanns Siedel”.
