The Moldovan Government and the EU are implementing a scrappage program for home appliances (part of ECIPES) to benefit 50 thousand families starting in 2023. Iurie Calestru, program director of IDEP Moldova, appreciated the launch of the program, urging the public to learn more about the program on ecovoucher.md.

Iurie Calestru told a press conference on Monday that the program aims to support Moldovan citizens in replacing old appliances with new, more energy-efficient appliances. The program will cover up to 80% of the costs of the new appliances, and 100% in the case of energy-saving LED light bulbs.

Iurie Calestru noted that the scrappage program for home appliances is part of the ECIPES program, which was designed by civil society and presented in June 2019. The program has three main intervention areas: direct support to young entrepreneurs, to town halls launching development projects, and to the general public seeking to replace their old home appliances.

According to Iurie Calestru, through the ECIPES, the absorption of European funds by the Moldova will be more efficient. The innovation of this program consists in the accessibility of funds at a click away, excluding red tape and ensuring the optimal times.

Initially designed for 50 thousand families, the program may grow to benefit 200 thousand families in the future. Thanks to that eco-voucher, electricity consumption will be reduced, savings will be generated, the carbon footprint will be reduced. Iurie Calestru believes that the project is a success and an indicator that the central authorities enjoy the support of external partners.

Iurie Calestru urged potential beneficiaries to call the phone number 0 8005 5005 for details in order to change old and energy-inefficient appliances to new ones with increased energy efficiency.
