More than 80 Chisinau residents needed medical assistance yesterday and last night as they fell on the ice and suffered fractures and dislocations. Most of them needed plaster treatment. Eufalia Negreata, coordinating doctor at the Chisinau Ambulance Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that the largest part of the victims were older than 60. A part of the victims were taken to the Emergency Hospital, while others received medical care at home or at the place of the accident. Some of the persons underwent surgery. As the cold weather will persist, Eufalia Negreata recommends the elderly persons to refrain from walking on the streets so as to avoid accidents. Four homeless persons aged 40, 44 and 50 were admitted to the Emergency Hospital with general hypothermia. One of them might remain without his legs as he suffered frostbite. A 25-year-old woman was discovered dead on the stairs of an apartment building on Dacia Blvd. Allegedly, she took an overdose of narcotics. On Monday, February 15, the Chisinau Ambulance Service dealt with 880 calls, including 87 cases of acute viral infections, 15 cases of flu, 92 cases of trauma, six strokes, two myocardial infarctions and 29 deliveries.
