The works to build the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline on Moldova’s territory will start on August 27, when it is celebrated the Independence Day, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said in a program on Radio Moldova. According to the official, the launch of this gas pipeline will enable Moldova to obtain alternative sources of gas in 6-9 months, IPN reports.

According to the Premier, another objective is to create a common electric power network. “In Romania, the electricity is much cheaper than in Ukraine. When there are two potential sources, it is much easier to find convenient variants,” stated Iurie Leanca.

Referring to other subjects discussed with his Romanian counterpart Victor Ponta earlier this week, Iurie Leanca said they explored the possibility of repairing a number of bridges over the Prut. “Resources should be identified to make a feasibility study. Afterward, we will se what can be done,” he added.

Iurie Leanca had a meeting with Victor Ponta in Bucharest in July 10.
