Iasi and Chisinau looking forward to town-twin

The municipalities of Iasi and Chisinau will establish a close friendship on the initiative of the Iasi City Hall. The town twinning agreement is being drafted in Chisinau. Liliana Balan, senior specialist of the Chisinau City Hall’s Foreign Relations, Regional Cooperation and European Integration Division, told Info-Prim Neo that the agreement envisages close cooperation in the areas of culture, healthcare and education. At the same time, the accord will encourage experience exchange over local public authorities’ activity. Iasi Mayor Gheorghe Nichita has said earlier that he is carrying out talks with Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca over the establishment of a town twinning between the two capitals of Moldova, from the left and right banks of the Prut. The draft agreement will be submitted to the Local Council Iasi for approval and the protocol will be signed afterwards, Nichita said, quoted by the Romanian press. MP of the Democratic Party from Iasi Petru Movila, the initiator of the project, said that the town twinning between the two municipalities will bring good social, cultural and economic results. The municipality of Chisinau signed town twinning agreements, cooperation and experience exchange with 30 towns from Europe, the United States and China. Chisinau has among friends such towns as Bucharest, Kiev, Minsk, Odessa, Ankara and others.
