If none of the candidates for the office of President of Moldova gains at least half of the ballot, runoff elections are held for the first two candidate set in the descending order of the votes won in the first round of voting.
The runoff vote is held two weeks after the first round. The candidate who wins the largest number of votes becomes the winner. If both of the candidates have the same score, the candidate who polled more votes in the first round of voting is declared the winner.
If a candidate wins at least half of the vote, the Central Election Commission declared the elections valid and the candidate elected. Within three days of the signing of the election outcome report, the CEC presents this to the Constitutional Court. Within ten days, but not before all the filed complaints are dealt with in accordance with the legal procedures, the Constitutional Court validates or invalidates the elections.
It should be noted that the persons who in the first round of voting voted at another polling place than the one where they are registered, after registering beforehand with the district head’s office or the mayor’s office, and are on the main voter rolls, in the runoff elections can vote at the same polling place and do not need to repeatedly declare their place of stay. Those who voted with the right to vote certificate must get a new certificate if they want to vote at the same polling place.
