The non-governmental organization Hyde Park states that the police exceeded their powers when arresting 4 people who were protesting before the Presidential Palace on April 21. The NGO members showed a small movie about the arrest, at a public sitting, on Wednesday, April 30. The images show the protesters were taken in custody by the police without being told the reason of being arrested, being physically and verbally aggressed, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to one of the NGO’s leaders, Oleg Brega, the police sent to arrest them were very angry at being filmed, trying to deprive the arrested of their goods. Oleg Brega says he will sue the police and is determined to reach the ECHR. Asked by Info-Prim Neo, representatives of the Ministry of Domestic Affairs who present when the movie was shown refused to comment on the images. Earlier, the head of the public order division of the Interior Ministry, Mihai Cebotaru, had told a news conference that arresting those four people was not violating the law. According to him those people protested on the stairs of the Palace, which are considered to make part from the architectural infrastructure of the building. The new law on meetings was published on April 21 and it provides that the citizens willing to protest should only notify the local authorities, five days beforehand. In case of spontaneous meetings or small-scaled gatherings the written notification is not necessary.
