A number of domestic animals have been attacked by wolves in Moldova in the recent past. These are hybrid wolves born as a result of the pairing of wolves and dogs. The last case was reported in a village of Causeni district on September 7. A pack of wolves attacked a flock of sheep and killed about 30 sheep. This is the second case of the kind during a month. Chief engineer of the Forestry Agency “Moldsilva” Alexei Palancean said these animals are very dangerous and must be exterminated, IPN reports.
According to Alexei Palancean, the hybrid wolves are not afraid of humans, fire and noise. These need about 50 kg of meat a week. That’s why they attack domestic animals and can also attack people.
The hybrid wolves can be killed by hunters only, but the executive must adopt a decision to this effect.
Alexei Palancean said the authentic wolves do not breed on Moldova’s territory. These can be seen only during the cold season, when they migrate from Romania or Ukraine. They go through Moldova because it is not much snow here and there is more food in December, January and February, when the wild wolves breed. Thus, the wolves go, but their offspring remains.
