There is a great fuss at the Central Market of Chisinau where the people make purchases for Low Sunday. In order to remember the dead and offer presents in their memory, the people buy plates and dishes, towels, kerchiefs as well as clothes and even domestic appliances, IPN reports.

The Chinese plates and towels at the Central Market are in demand as they are the cheapest. The price of a plate varies between 10 and 30 lei, while of kitchen towels between 6 and 25 lei. The cups are sold for 5 to 30 lei, while a tray costs about 25 lei.

Decorative flowers from plastic and material, which are laid at graves, cost 10-40 lei, while the wreaths up to 120 lei. Tablecloths are sold for 40 to 250 lei, blankets for 100-250 lei, while handkerchiefs for 3 lei apiece. Ten boxes of matches cost 3 lei.

Contacted by IPN, monk Iacob of the Sireti Monastery said that unfortunately, they exchange presents at Low Sunday in Moldova rather than show kindness and it’s better to make a donation for a children’s home for example. “One should give something as a gift in the name of God and in memory of those who are deceased,” said the monk, adding that the presents should be offered to foreign persons, not relatives.
