The police arrested a man and his wife on suspicion that they dispossessed elderly people living in Chisinau from 18 apartments by swindle and abuse of trust. Together with three relatives of theirs, they identified elderly persons in difficult situations and, earning their trust, dispossessed them of homes, IPN reports.
General Police Inspectorate head Ion Bodrug told a news conference that the husband and wife began to swindle people in 2000. The man started to work as a doctor’s assistant at the Emergency Hospital. After identifying possible victims, the man earned their trust and then signed maintenance contracts for life with them. Afterward, the apartments were sold and the elderly people remained in the street.
Upon a search at the couple’s homes, the police found realty books, sale-purchase contracts, maintenance contracts for life, apartment donation contracts, powers of attorney in the names of different persons and over 390,000 lei.
According to Ion Bodrug, four of the elderly men who were dispossessed of apartments died, while another two persons went missing. The police are to establish the circumstances in which the elderly people died. They are also to identify the notaries who took part in illegal transactions.
