Hungary is situated on the Eastern border of the European Union and its interest is to see peace and wellbeing in the Eastern Partnership countries. What’s happening in the Eastern neighborhood of the EU has direct economic and security consequences for Hungary too. In this regard, Hungary is a country that continuously supports the EaP and also fully supports Moldova’s entry into the EU, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Szijjártó stated while on a working visit to the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.
In a news conference held together with his Moldovan counterpart Aureliu Ciocoi, Péter Szijjártó assured that Hungary will continue to support those integration tendencies for which the governments did a lot until now too. “Surely, the support is transposed by deeds also, not only by words. An expert of Hungary will come to work at the Ministry of Finance, while another one will work at the Ministry of Agriculture. Also, the Hungarian enterprises in the Republic of Moldova continue work. The OTP Bank is leading in terms of banking activity in Moldova and will make serious investments in the information technology sector in the immediate period. The largest pharmaceutical enterprise of Hungary built a chain of 42 drugstores in the Republic of Moldova and has a market share of 10%,” stated the Hungarian official.
He noted that Hungary, at the level of the European Commission, asked to make the last transfer of the macro-financial assistance as the proper economic situation in the Republic of Moldova is in the common interest. The pandemic showed what role the international cooperation plays and this cooperator should be based on mutual respect, as earlier.
For his part, Aureliu Ciocoi said they discussed the agenda of the bilateral relations and also of the regional relations, the European perspectives of the Republic of Moldova and how these can be materialized. “We agreed a series of high-level visits both to the Republic of Moldova and to Hungary. We came to terms as to the assistance offered by Hungary, at the European and bilateral levels,” noted the minister.
Aureliu Ciocoi stated that they also conferred on aspects of cooperation in education, including university one, and underscored a number of problems that will be taken into account in the process of extending the bilateral dialogue.
