Hungarian culture to be celebrated in Moldova

In celebration of the National Day of Hungarian Culture, cultural events will take place in a number of Moldovan towns during 8 days until January 24, IPN reports.

Hungarian Ambassador Mátyás Szilagyi told a news conference that the National Day of Hungarian Culture has been observed since 19th century on January 22, being also known as the Day of the National Anthem.

In Chisinau, on January 18 the acclaimed Magyar pianist Endre Hegedus will star in a concert held at the National Philharmonic. The concert will feature compositions by Ferenc Liszt and Bela Bartok. On January 19, the pianist will give a concert in Tiraspol. On January 21, Endre Hegedus will travel to Balti and the next day he will play at the House of Culture in Comrat.

On January 20, the National Library “Vasile Alecsandri” in Chisinau will host a literary exhibition of two Magyar authors. The students of the Free International University of Moldova on January 23 will hold a scientific conference dedicated to the Day of Hungarian Culture, where they will discuss issues related to Hungary's national anthem as well as the relations between Moldova and Hungary throughout history.

The Days of Hungarian Culture in Moldova will culminate with an exhibition of folk art called “Matyoart”, which will showcase works by traditional Matyo handcrafts. The exhibition will be hosted by the Hungarian Embassy.
