The police arrested four young men who are suspected of stealing money from electronic payment terminals located especially in supermarkets and shopping centers, IPN reports.
In a press briefing, press officer of the Chisinau Police Division Adrian Jovmir said the four suspects are aged between 26 and 28 and are from the municipality of Chisinau. The initiator of the activity was earlier tried for drug-related offences, while the other members – for patrimony-related offenses. It was established that the young men stole hundreds of thousands of lei from at least 15 POS terminals in Chisinau alone.
During searches at suspects’ homes, the police found special devices, some of which made by hand, which were used to steal money from terminals. Also, in the basement of a house situated in Botanica district, there were found cards and special IT equipment with which the group intended to steal money from ATMs in Chisinau.
The suspects face two to six years behind bars.
