Hundreds of children took part in the opening of the 16th International Book Fair at Moldexpo on April 26. They admired stands with over 15,000 book titles and bought books for their personal library.
“The children were very glad when they found out that we will come to the Book Fair in Chisinau. The children of lower grades like mainly fairytales and books with brightly-colored illustrations. The books of Mihai Eminescu, Ion Creangă, Grigore Vieru and Spiridon Vangheli are in great demand,” the librarian of Balabanesti village, Criuleni, Vasilisa Malai stated for Info-Prim Neo.
“Unfortunately, the children now do not read books as earlier as they have computers and the books are expensive. There are many books in libraries, but they are old,” said Iraida Harea, a teacher of the Chisinau primary school No. 83.
The publishing house “Stiinta” exhibited 143 book titles, including encyclopedias that cost about 200 lei. The school dictionaries are sold for 55 lei. “The prices are by 15% lower than in bookshops and we hope we will have many buyers,” said Larisa Dohotaru, of the publishing house.
In the opening of the event, Head of Parliament Marina Lupu, Deputy Minister of Education Tatiana Potang, Minister of Youth and Sport Ion Cebanu, writer Spiridon Vangheli and others urged the children to read as many books as possible.
The International Children’s Book Fair is held under the patronage of the Head of Parliament. It will be open daily between 9.00 and 18.00, until April 29. The managers of the 166 publishing houses that took part in the event offered discounts of 15% to 25% on the books.
