The Human Trafficking Awareness Week entitled “10 years of the adoption of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings” was opened in Chisinau. On October 15-21, events will be staged in a number of villages and towns to inform and sensitize the people to the risks and consequences of human trafficking. There will be discussed aspects of the national legal and institutional mechanisms for fighting trafficking in persons, the protection of the rights of victims of trafficking, including the access to justice and the role of NGOs in this field, IPN reports.
The national campaign was organized and will be coordinated by the permanent secretariat of the National Human Trafficking Fighting Committee. It is carried out in partnership with the institutions of the central and local public authorities, NGOs and international organizations working in Moldova.
The campaign, which is staged in Moldova the fourth consecutive year, is held in connection with the EU Anti-trafficking Day that is marked on October 18.
