Eight documentary films made by Moldovan and foreign film-makers will be screened during October 2-13 at a festival dedicated to human rights and diversity. The event, organized by the Council of Europe and Telefilm-Chisinau, was launched on Wednesday at the “Artcor” Creative Center.
The festival debuted with the “Czech Swan”, winner of the international award Prix CIRCOM, and Telefilm-Chisinau’s “Moldovean ca mine nu-i”/“A Moldovan Like No Other”. The festival will tour the cities of Hâncești, Soroca, Glodeni, Ungheni, Comrat, Taraclia, Căușeni, and Cahul.
Minister of Culture Liliana Nicolăescu-Onofrei highlighted the festival’s educational role: “It is very important that the films will be shown outside of the capital as well. I think the entire republic should become a space where notions like democracy, human rights, freedom or fairness start to mean something.”
William Massolin, head of the CoE Office in Chisinau, noted that the festival is an occasion to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Council of Europe and the 60th anniversary of Telefilm-Chisinau.
Telefilm-Chisinau director Mircea Surdu thanked the Council of Europe for helping the studio return to life two years ago. The director said that making documentary films in Moldova today is only possible with help from outside, noting in particular the contribution of the CoE and the United States.
The festival will culminate on October 13 in Chisinau with the screening of the award-winning French documentary “My Father’s Sin” and of the made-in-Moldova “Goodbye Olegovici”.
