When choosing the schoolbag for the future student, the parents should first of all take into account the child’s height. The schoolbag uniformly distributes the weight onto the back and the child’s figure is not affect. This should be bright in color and have reflective elements laterally so that the divers easily see the children crossing the street. Such pieces of advice were given by teaches to the parents who took part in an educational forum staged by the Chisinau General Division of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, IPN reports.
Senior-grade teacher Viorica Morcov said the form of the schoolbag is also important. It should not be wider than the child’s shoulders. If the child’s height is under 120 cm, an horizontal schoolbag should be chosen. If the student is higher than 130 cm, the bag should be vertical in form.
The rigid back of the schoolbag prevents pressure being exerted on the child’s back. For increased comfort, the bag’s back should be upholstered. The schoolbag should be made from light, strong and water-repellent material resistant to cold. It is good when the bag can be cleaned and washed easily. The belts should enable to regulate the length, should be durable and not narrower than 4cm.
The teacher also said textbooks with a hard cover should be placed in the bag’s part that is closer to the back. The schoolbag should not be worn on one shoulder. “Don’t forget to explain to the child how to correctly arrange the textbooks in the bag from the start and how to wear it. The heavy objects should be placed so that they are closer to the child’s back,” recommended Viorica Morcov.
She added the print should not be the key element based on which a schoolbag for a first grader is chosen as the film and animated cartoon characters often change and such things swiftly become old-fashioned. But the child’s opinion should be taken into account anyway.
The event brought together over 200 parents whose children will go to the first grade in autumn. Specialists told them about psychological features of the adjustment of children aged 6-7 to the school environment and what they and the future first graders should know. The teachers told parents about the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle and of extracurricular activities, about the correct division of the student’s time, etc.
