While some Moldovans use to spend their Easter holidays with the family, others prefer a seaside vacation, which doesn’t come cheap, however.

Elena Fetescu, the director of a travel agency, says that Turkey could be a good destination, as the vacation season on the Turkish seaside already starts in mid April. A seven-day break for two adults in a 5 stars, all inclusive hotel starts at 800 euros. Egypt is also a popular destination, with prices starting at 900 euros.

Travel agencies also offer trips to pilgrimage sites in Jerusalem, Nazareth and Bethlehem. While in March through May a trip costs around $700 per person, flight costs excluded, around Easter a package starts at $1,200 per person, including accommodation, airport transfer and three guided tours.

According to the National Statistics Bureau, travel agencies sent 264,100 Moldovans on vacations or excursions last year. Travelers and holidaymakers preferred Turkey (36.3%), Bulgaria (23.2%) and Romania (11.7%) as the top three destinations.
