By 2027, smart meters will be installed in 60,000 households in the country, as part of a pilot project implemented by the Ministry of Energy, with the support of UNDP Moldova and funding from the Government of Italy. According to the authorities, the houses and public buildings included in this project were selected based on criteria meant to ensure representativeness at the national level, IPN reports.
The authorities explained that 21 localities from different regions of the country were chosen, both urban and rural areas. Households with a varied consumption, from less than 10 KWh to over 180 KWh per month, as well as homes connected to electricity networks of various types, from modern to old, were included.
The selection was made through a combined methodology, using both stratified sampling, which divided households into groups according to the mentioned characteristics, and random sampling, to ensure the objectivity of the process.
The authorities noted that this balanced approach will allow the impact of smart meters to be analyzed in real conditions, before the project is extended on a national scale. The new devices will give consumers greater control over their energy consumption and contribute to greater efficiency in the management of sources of energy.
