The inhabitants of the villages Molovata Noua, Cocieri and Corjova villages of Dubasari district, which are located on the left side of the Nistru, will be able to easier travel to the right side of the river by the first hovercraft put into operation in Moldova. The people living in these villages didn’t have access to food and medicines in winter, when the water in the Nistru River froze and the ferryboat stopped work. The hovercraft will be able to move on ice, IPN has learned from the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure.

The vehicle will be permanently on the right side of the Nistru River, in Molovata village, and will be used mainly in winter, when the ferryboat cannot be used.

The hovercraft was purchased in the Russian town Vladivostok and is new. A sum of 800,000 lei was provided by the Captainship of the Giurgiulesti Port, while another 300,000 lei was allocated from the state budget to the state-run company “Bacul Molovata” (“Molovata Ferry”).

The hovercraft has a transportation capacity of 3.5 tonnes, which is it can easily transport a minibus with passengers. The distance from one bank to another is covered in 6-12 minutes. The vehicle can be maneuvered by two persons.
