After a week of freak weather, the dog days are back in Moldova. Meteorologists forecast up to 33 and more degrees Celsius for the next 2 days.
According to data of the multi-annual watching, July is the hottest month of the year in Moldova. The average monthly temperature on the territory reaches from 19 degrees Celsius in the North up to 22 degrees Celsius in the South. The coolest July month within the whole period of instrumental measurements was registered in 1979, when the monthly temperatures reached 16.5 degrees Celsius in Briceni, and 18.9 degrees Celsius in Cahul. The hottest July month was registered in 1936, when the average monthly temperature oscillated between 25.2 degrees Celsius in Chisinau and 26.1 degrees Celsius in Dubasari.
The precipitations in July represent on average on the country’s territory 53-89 mm, registering about 8 – 12 days with precipitations. Data of the multi-annual watching show that the highest monthly quantity of precipitations reached 330 mm in Briceni in 2003, and the highest daily one – 218mm in Chisinau in 1948.
Thunder storms, hail and fog are quite possible in July.
The biggest risk in July is the heavy showers (with a quantity of precipitations of 30mm and over per hour) and hail fall (with a diameter of 20mm and more), which is occurring annually. Even more dangerous for this time period are the summer droughts, which are possible on average once every 4 years.
