Two cases of swine fever were reported in Ungheni and Cahul districts. The presence of the virus was confirmed in samples taken from domestic pigs of a hog farm located outside Petrești village of Ungheni distrust and of a hog farm situated outside Câșlița Prut village of Cahul district, IPN reports.
The commissions for emergencies of the two districts have taken measures to eliminate the hotbeds. Restriction areas were set up – a 3km protection area and a 10km surveillance area. The movement of pigs from local farms and the sale of pork from these farms were restricted.
The National Food Safety Agency calls on pig owners to inform the local food safety subdivisions, veterinarians and the local public authorities about the infection and death or animals or about discovered dead wild boars.
The Agency is ready to reward the persons who notify of the discovery of dead wild boars and their location with €50 for each reported body.
Seventeen sources of swine fever were recorded in 2023. As many as 334 pigs and 21 wild boars were destroyed due to infection.
