Hotbed of African swine fever reported in Briceni district

The National Veterinary Diagnostic Center confirmed the presence of African swine fever in samples taken from domestic pigs belonging to a family living in Cotiujeni village of Briceni district, IPN reports.

According to the National Public Health Agency, the Briceni commission for exceptional situation agreed a plan of measures for combating and eliminating the hotbed.

The Agency launched the procedure for notifying the national responsible bodies, the EU institutions, the World Organization for Animal Health and other foreign partners of the hotbed of
African swine fever detected in Moldova.

In 2021, Moldova and also Ukraine and Romania reported a number of cases of African swine fever in domestic pigs and wild boars.

The last case of African swine fever in domestic pigs in Moldova was recorded in Hănășenii Noi village of Leova district on August 13, 2021. This was successfully eradicated.

The National Public Health Agency urges the citizens not to purchase pork and products from pork from other countries for taking them to the Republic of Moldova as these will be confiscated and destroyed in order to prevent infection with African swine fever.
