Hospital healthcare to get most money from CNAM in 2024

Over 7 billion lei was allocated by the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) for services in the field of hospital healthcare. This is the type of assistance for which the largest amount of money was earmarked in 2024, but also the type of assistance that consumes the largest financial resources each year, Nina Onofrei, head of the CNAM’s Contracts with Healthcare Providers Division, stated at a press conference, being quoted by IPN reports.

According to Nina Onofrei, there were purchased services both under the general program and for surgery, rehabilitation services, with particular attention to special programs. This category also includes waiting lists for cataract surgery, waiting lists for prosthetic surgery. About 10,500 services were purchased for cataract surgery, by over 1,500 services more than the previous year.

Most of the financial resources were allocated to public medical institutions, of municipal or tertiary level, such as the National Clinical Hospital, the Emergency Medicine Institute, and the Mother and Child Institute. These medical institutions in 2024 benefited from contracts worth over 700 million lei per each public health facility.

Over 3 billion lei was allocated for primary health care in 2024 and around 280 healthcare providers were contracted. According to Nina Onofrei, it goes to the family doctor and the team of this working throughout the Republic of Moldova.

For specialized ambulatory medical care, including specialist doctor’s consultations, dental care and others, medical services of radiotherapy and dialysis were contracted. Over 1.3 billion lei was allocated to the National Center for Prehospital Emergency Medical Assistance and the State Polyclinic.

Nina Onofrei noted that for 2024, over 300,000 high-performance services were procured, with 67 healthcare providers being contracted. They will provide colonoscopy, echocardiography, nuclear magnetic resonance, tomography and high-performance services for oncological patients. For community and home medical care, which are in great demand, youth-friendly services, or palliative care, 47 providers were contracted this year to provide these services.

In total, CNAM in 2024 allocated about 14 billion lei to both public and private healthcare providers that are to offer assistance to medically insured persons.
