Hospice Angelus Moldova on May 24 held the Annual Charity Ball for the tenth consecutive year. This year’s edition was staged under the theme “Horaland”. The goal of the event was to collect funds to support palliative care services for adults and children in the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.
The event started with a champagne reception that was followed by a dinner accompanied by an artistic program. An outcry auction was the highpoint of the evening. Among the auctioned off objects were a ball with the signatures of the entire national football team of France that last year won the World Cup, paintings, works of art, clothes made by national designers, Bordeaux collection wines and a vacation at a winery in Sicilia. The objects were donated by owners for being sold for charitable purposes. The event involved guests from abroad, state functionaries, ambassadors, business entities, etc.
According to Valerian Isac, the founder and director for national development and education of Hospice Angelus, the collection of additional funds is necessary as the financial resources allocated by the state are insufficient. They already received a sum of money from the sponsors of the event and from those who bought tickets to the Ball. “This year the event was held in a Moldovan traditional style under the theme “Horaland”. By this notion and event, we want to promote the Republic of Moldova outside its borders,” stated Valerian Isac.
Victoria Condrat has worked as a volunteer at Hospice Angelus since 2009. She said she has helped organize all the editions of the Charity Ball. Even if she had jitters at the start, she managed to overcome them. “Those who work for Hospice at least once change for good as they start to perceive their life and the life of others differently.” According to her, Hospice offers this support to ease the sufferings of people with terminal illnesses.
In 2018, Hospice ensured home care for over 300 persons,=. Representatives of the organization made about 7,500 home visits and almost 70 children received palliative care at home, while nearly 200 children benefitted from the services of the Pediatric Palliative Care Center “Casa Angelus” based in Isacova village of Orhei district. Also, more than 20 women received breast prostheses. Currently, the staff of Hospice includes 35 persons.
For over 18 years, Hospice Angelus has provided free palliative care services in Moldova intended for children and grownups who suffer from end-stage diseases.
