The heavy rain of June 4 caused havoc in southern and northern Moldova where dozens of houses and yards were flooded. In Cucoara village of Cahul district, four persons, two of whom minors, were evacuated by rescuers from the flooded homes, IPN reports.
According to the General Inspectorate for Emergencies, in Cucoara rescuers and locals reconstructed a segment of a levee that was damaged by floodwater. The villages Roșu, Etulia and Chircani of Cahul district and Ciobalaccia village of Cantemir district were also affected. Rescuers there pumped water out of over 20 yards and houses. In Basarabeasca, the rain with hail damaged crops.
A portion of the levee of a lake situated near Cepeleuți village of Edineț district was destroyed. To prevent the inundation of houses, water from the lake was pumped into Racovăț River.
Almost 3 km of local roads were damaged in the villages Șaptebani, Alexandrești, Borosenii Noi and Răcăria of Râșcani district. Rescuers intervened to unblock a section of a road after the high winds downed a number of trees in Glinjeni and Mihuleni villages of Șoldănești district.
Local emergencies commissions are assessing the caused damage.
