The heavy shower of last night caused havoc in Ceadar-Lunga town. Over 50 private homes were flooded, while 21 persons, among whom four children, were evacuated from their houses. These were lodged by relatives and at a local medical center. Contacted by IPN, press officer of the Civic Protection and Emergencies Service Diana Turcan said that no person was hurt.

According to the Service’s data, 16 houses, 41 basements, yards and orchards and the local market were affected. In some of the yards, the level of water rose to over 1 meter. The rain caused walls of five houses made of clay to fall. Two of these were uninhabited.

The people were evacuated by employees of the Emergencies Division of Gagauzia and of the Emergencies Division of Cahul. These also pumped water out of homes. The evacuation and pumping works involved 45 firemen and rescuers with seven firefighting vehicles and eight motor-pumps.

The State Hydrometeorology Service said about 69 milliliters of water per square meter fell in Ceadar-Lunga during two hours in the evening of June 13.
