Homes 'built on human bones'

“Communism, be it contemporary or from the past, wears no cross round the neck and has no faith in God. It walks over dead bodies”, declared acting President Mihai Ghimpu at a press conference held today in open air on 159 Grenoble Street in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports. In 2008 a plot of land was allotted on this address for the construction of an apartment house for the staff of the Intelligence and Security Service. But Mihai Ghimpu says he possesses information that this place was used as an execution ground to shoot about 300 people charged with espionage, treason and other political crimes during 1944-1953. Materials proving those executions had been kept secret for years before being sent to Moscow in the 1990s, said Ghimpu. Mihai Ghimpu added his further move would be to summon the Supreme Security Council to adopt a decision on the findings. This, according to Ghimpu, wouldn't be the first case – the Jumbo mall was also built on human remains.
