Homeowner associations reminded of obligation to remove ragweed

Administrators of homeowner associations of flats are the ones who have a duty to fight the proliferation of the allergies-inducing ragweed in their neighborhoods. As concerns areas around building sites, the head of the Amenities and Sanitation Division Vasile Efros told IPN that the responsibility is on the owners of the buildings under construction.

Ambrosia artemisiifolia,
also called annual ragweed is widespread. It grows on the side of the road, in the fields, in the gardens, among the crops of grain and sunflower. It is dangerous as it causes allergies and at the end of summer and early autumn it is one of the factors of that stimulates bronchial asthma.

Legal measures were put in place in the autumn of 2018 requiring administrators of homeowner associations to control the spread of weeds. The fines for noncompliance are up to 1,500 lei for individuals and 6,000 lei for legal entities. Sanctions are enforced by the Inspectorate for Environmental Protection.
