A Home of Culture was inaugurated in Cosnita village of Dubasari district. The building was renovated with the financial assistance of the District Council, the EU and UNDP within the Support to Confidence Building Measures Program. The investments came to over 4 million lei, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué of the Government.

The Home of Culture was built in 1939 and was in need of extensive repair. It has a festivity hall with 350 places and an area housing the district library.

The inauguration was attended by Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, who said that such projects to strengthen the relations between both banks of the Nistru River are necessary in all the areas. “We will show once again that we do not divide the people in Moldova by the bank on which they live. They all enjoy the same rights and chances: to study, to travel visa-free, to projects financed with foreign funds,” he stated.

UNDP Permanent Representative in Moldova Nicola Harrington Buhay said the cultural center in Cosnita is one of the 40 social infrastructure projects implemented within the program. “I’m delighted to see how the common effort transformed a building that is over 75 years old into a modern cultural center that can now bring together talented people from both sides of the Nistru,” she stated.

EU Ambassador to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola expressed his conviction that the project will unite the people from the region. “We made a contribution of 40% and this thing pleases me as we created a place where you can come together to speak about opportunities, problems and possibilities of developing Dubasari district,” he stated.

Within the event, there was opened the Common Information and Services Bureau that is housed by the Home of Culture of Cosnita. The Bureau will offer the villagers support in finding a job, in developing a business and in such areas as social protection, agriculture and entrepreneurship. The center will have a mobile team that will travel to families with many children and to persons with disabilities.
